DEADLINE FOR FIRE-IMPACTED PROPERTY OWNERS TO MAKE PAYMENTS IS APRIL 30

The Los Angeles County Treasurer and Tax Collector is reminding residents whose properties were impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires that the deadline to make payments is Thursday, April 30, 2026. Property owners who are unable to make a timely payment due to wildfire impacts are strongly encouraged to submit a request for property tax relief on or after May 1, 2026, to avoid penalties and interest.

Under state law, the Treasurer and Tax Collector has limited authority to cancel penalties and interest associated with late property tax payments under specific circumstances, including when a property has been impacted by a wildfire.

Eligible property owners may request relief by submitting a Penalty Cancellation Request and completing the following steps:

  1. Access the request form here.
  2. Have your Assessor’s Identification Number (AIN) available (found on your property tax bill). If you do not have your bill, you may locate your AIN using your property address here.
  3. Provide your name, mailing address, email address, and a valid phone number, as staff may need to contact you.
  4. Enter your AIN again in the “Penalty Cancellation Request” field.
  5. In the “Comment” field, include: “Fire-Impacted Property.”
  6. Click “Submit.”
  7. After submitting the request, you will receive an automated confirmation.

Treasurer and Tax Collector staff will review each request individually and notify property owners within 30–45 days regarding the status of their request and any next steps.

The Treasurer and Tax Collector accepts partial payments. Property owners who are able to make a partial or full payment on fire-impacted properties should contact the office to ensure payments are applied correctly and without penalties. The Treasurer and Tax Collector will issue an updated bill without penalties for approved requests, and eligible taxpayers may have until June 30, 2030, to pay qualifying property taxes without penalties.

Property owners may still see penalties online or receive delinquent notices for the FY 2024–25 second installment, FY 2025–26 installments, or related supplemental bills. Receiving these notices does not mean a request has been denied. Automated delinquent or defaulted notices will continue to be issued until all wildfire-related tax matters are resolved, which may extend through June 30, 2030.
