The Treasurer and Tax Collector Addresses Community Concerns About Unregulated Short Term Rentals

The County Treasurer and Tax Collector is committed to working closely with our partner departments to ensure that Short Term Rental operators follow the rules and operate safely in our communities. The County’s Short Term Rental ordinance went into effect on October 7, 2024, and since then any unregistered Short Term Rental operators are subject to enforcement actions. The purpose of the Short Term Rental regulations are to ensure neighborhood safety and quality of life for adjoining property owners. The Treasurer and Tax Collector actively engages with local residents through community forums and promptly reports any illegal or nuisance related activities of Short Term Rental operators to the Department of Regional Planning and the County’s Sheriff’s Department for further investigation and action. The goal of the Treasurer and Tax Collector is to educate potential Short Term Rental operators on the requirements of registration and provide support in answering operator questions. Short Term Rental property operators must be registered with the County and failure to properly register as a Short Term Rental operator will subject the property operator to enforcement actions.

To file a complaint regarding a Short Term Rental operator, please call (213) 371-1070.
