Treasurer and Tax Collector Elizabeth Buenrostro Ginsberg Releases Statement Regarding the Wildfires and the April 10 Secured Property Tax Deadline.

The recent wildfires have left many in our community facing tremendous hardship, and I want to assure you that our office is here to support you during this challenging time.

While the secured property tax deadline for the second installment remains April 10, as required by state law, the Governor has signed an Executive Order suspending penalties, costs, and interest on late property tax payments for properties impacted by the wildfires in ZIP codes 90019, 90041, 90049, 90066, 90265, 90272, 90290, 90402, 91001, 91040, 91104, 91106, 91107, 93535, or 93536.  This suspension will remain in effect until April 10, 2026, for secured and unsecured property taxes due in calendar year 2025.

After April 10, 2026, individuals who are unable to pay their property taxes may submit a penalty cancellation request online at ttc.lacounty.gov for up to four years.

If your property was impacted by the wildfires but is outside of the affected ZIP codes, you may still be eligible for penalty cancellation.  Please visit our website to submit your request.

Impacted property owners may qualify for temporary property tax relief by filing a Misfortune and Calamity claim with the Office of the Assessor to reassess property damaged or destroyed by the wildfires.  While your claim is under review, you can delay paying your property taxes if you normally pay them directly to the Tax Collector’s Office.

I encourage all property owners who can pay their property taxes to do so on time.  This is a critical source of revenue that funds vital services to the public, including emergency response, public health, and schools.

Thank you and stay safe.
